Episode 17: Selling Women’s Shoes on eBay

Episode 17: Selling Women’s Shoes on eBay

A few episodes ago we said we would start occasionally talking about ‘WHAT’S IN OUR INVENTORY’.  We started doing this because one of the most asked questions we get is “how do I know what to buy? How do you know what will sell on eBay?” We talked about coffee mugs and now we want to shoes.

Many of us listening are in the building stages of our eBay selling career.  Some of us are not quite to the level of needing a store, others have a store but are stuck at a certain number of listings.  We know so many people who get stuck when it comes to getting their listings done.  It is crucial that you continue listing if you wish to continue growing. …  You know that I’m not saying anything new and ground breaking here… but yet we know that many of us are great at the hunt / the thrift and horrible at successfully getting the items listed in a timely manner.   Take a moment right now to look around your house does your living room, dining room, spare bedroom or office have a pile of thrifted items?  Are those items from more than 1 thrifting day?

So what gets in your way of listing?

Are you not excited about the product?

Do you not feel comfortable with your knowledge base with the items you are trying to list?

Are you too lax about your listings? Do you not put enough importance on it? Maybe you need to sit at your desk, or at a table right next to your photographing area?  Maybe you are too rigid about your listings and you need to try to do it while sitting in your favorite chair with your feet up.

Are you making your listings too complicated? Talk about your product, what should they know, and then move on.  Your buyers do not need to be informed about every aspect of how you run your eBay business in your listing.  eBay is only going to uphold what eBay deems as appropriate for the return situation, what the seller lists in painstaking detail in the listing holds no weight.

How about this:  Pick 3 things and do the listings.  Pay attention to your start time and end time.  (*Include everything from cleaning and photographing the items to researching, creating the listing and putting the item away*)  When you are done with the listing, think about your process. Do you do all your photos first? Do you do all the listings first, then photograph?  Do you do one listing from start to finish and then do the next?   Since you’ve just done 3 listings you should be able to see what area in your listing process slowed you down the most.

Are you using the “I don’t have time” excuse?

As far the time excuse goes…  If something is important enough you will do it.

I’m a busy mom, have a full time job and then do this podcast and listings.  I occasionally help Jonathan ship… Here is something I’ve started doing:   I pick 4 to 6 things that are interesting to me (or just look nice and easy to list).  I clean them up and photograph.  I take a few extra pics than I’ll use in my listing because I want to make sure my photos can be enough information for me to complete the listing.    The pics are in my phone and ready for me whenever I have a few minutes.  This past week I did a couple of listings before I went to bed, one listing while I was eating lunch and a couple more while I was hanging out on my couch with my family watching tv.
